Will I still be able to use the Relay network if I Direct Permanent Hire a driver?

Absolutely! We find the best way to maximize your truck revenue is to have a 50/50 mix of Permanent Direct Drivers and Preferred Relay Drivers who help keep your truck running 24/7. When your Permanent Driver completes a run or is on home time, you should be using 2-3 Relay Drivers through the app to generate more revenue at all times.

Do I have to dispatch a Direct Permanent Hire Driver through the Relay app?

No. Direct hiring means you will be able to use the driver outside the Relay app as you see fit or within the terms that you and the driver agreed upon and pay zero network or payment fees.

What responsibilities am I in charge of for a directly hired Relay driver?

After you Direct Permanent Hire a driver you will solely be responsible for all DOT compliance associate with the driver; Payroll processing, Random Drug Testing, Drug Consortium, FMCSA Clearinghouse, MVR continuous monitoring, DQF file management, Payroll taxes, IRS filings, etc. If you’d like Relay to continue to manage the DOT compliance and driver support for you, then use the Driver through the Relay app instead of direct hiring.

What are the recruiting costs to Direct Permanent Hire a Relay Driver?

After you and the driver complete 3-5 runs on the Relay Network together, you’ll unlock their eligibility for Direct Permanent Hire. From the ‘PAST DRIVERS’ screen on your web portal you’ll be able to see the Direct Hire Recruitment one-time fee to hire the driver and take them off the Relay Network. You will no longer pay any network or payroll fees as you will become responsible for the DOT compliance of the driver.

What are the recruiting costs to Direct Permanent Hire a Relay Driver?

The more times you use the driver through the Relay app, the lower your Direct Hire Recruitment cost gets. You’ll earn a discount credit of $2.00-$5.00 per hour for each on duty hour the driver works. This discount credit is automatically applied and updated in real time so you can decide when it’s the right time and cost to buy-out the driver.

Our smart algorithms help you always secure drivers at the lowest rates possible. Set your own rate either hourly, per mile, or on a per trip/shift basis. 

Are there any additional fees?

There is a 3.5% charge when using a credit card to pay drivers who drive for you through Relay.

Whenever you create/schedule a run you’ll see the driver cost and fees upfront everytime.

Insurance

Relay provides optional coverage the first time you use a driver. Once a driver becomes a repeat driver by doing multiple shifts or runs then you easily add them to your policy by downloading the driver DQF  file right from the app.

Driver Payments

You set the pay rate and Relay takes care of paying the driver for you. There is no need for you to manage payroll, taxes, etc. We charge your card at the end of each run and pay the driver.

Step 1 – Schedule

Whenever you need a driver, simply log in and create a run with the stop-off details or create a shift for how long you need a driver for. 

Step 2 – Dispatch

You can choose a driver or have your run/shift automatically sent out to all available drivers on the network through the Relay app who then accept your run and dispatch. Once they accept it you’re able to fully communicate with the driver as needed. You provide the load, truck, and fuel when the driver shows up.

Step 3 – Track

 Once a run has started you can track the progress right from your app. You get pictures of the pre-trips, instant uploads of BOLs, and notifications in real time when the driver completes each stop.

Repeat and build lasting driver relationships

After each run, you can rate the driver and add him to your “Preferred” Network where you can add him to your fleet and re-dispatch work directly to him going forward.
